Price
Rates include insurance (subject to the damage liability of the vehicle), VAT, breakdown cover & unlimited miles (unless otherwise stated)
Driver Age
All drivers must be aged between 21 and 75 inclusive. Drivers aged 21-24 may only rent vehicles up to Standard category, Economy and Short Wheel Base Vans. An additional daily charge of £11.25 (incl VAT) applies to drivers aged 21-24 and 70-75 inclusive.
Drivers aged 21-24 must hold a full driving licence for a minimum of 24 months which is free of endorsements.
Drivers must be aged 30 to 75 to rent a luxury or prestige vehicle and have a licence for at least 24 months that is free of endorsements
Damage Liability
Insurance is subject to a damage liability which varies according to vehicle size.
Damage liability reduction (reducing the damage liability to £0 for cars and £250 for vans) is available at participating locations for an additional cost but is not available to drivers aged 21-24 or 70-75.

Fuel Policy
All vehicles are supplied with a full tank of fuel at the start of the hire. Customers may:-
Payment
Payment is required by credit card (Visa, Mastercard, American Express) or UK debit card (Switch, Solo, Maestro, Visa Electron, issued on UK banks only). Cash, cheque, and pre-paid credit cards are not accepted. Other people may pre pay for a rental but the credit or debit card presented at the start of the hire must always be in the name of the main driver. Other people paying for the rental at pick up (or additional rental charges in the event of a pre-payment) is not acceptable.
Overseas hires
Prices quoted are for use in mainland UK only. Additional charges and mileage restrictions will apply for overseas use.
Driving Licences & history
Anyone who will be driving the Thrifty vehicle must present a valid driving licence with their current address (having a current address on your driving licence is a legal requirement), in person, at the time of collection. No copies of licences will be accepted.
IMPORTANT: On collection of vehicle, renter must produce: valid driving licence (both parts of UK licence) - we cannot accept an expired photocard
Drivers aged between 25-75 must have held a full driving licence for at least 12 months. Licence endorsements up to 9 points are accepted. If the driver has been banned from driving for a DD, DR or UT offence, or has been disqualified for 12 months or more, we will only rent 5 years or more after the return of the licence.
Drivers aged 21-24 must have held a licence for at least 24 months and be free of endorsements.
Drivers must be aged 30 to 75 to rent a luxury or prestige vehicle and have a licence for at least 24 months that is free of endorsements
Minibus rental is only available to renters holding category D1 on their licence.
Identification required if UK Resident
When collecting the vehicle, the Lead Driver must present
Minibuses may only be hired with a licence showing a D1 entitlement

Vehicles with more than 9 seats (including the driver) may not be rented by non UK Licence Holders
Rental Payment Terms
When you book online you accept the conditions set out below:
The Thrifty location will do its best to have the vehicle which is the subject of a confirmed reservation available on the day and at the time you have requested. If you decide to cancel your reservation or do not arrive to collect your reserved vehicle on the day and at the time you have reserved it, charges may be made and these are explained in these Rental terms.
Please read this carefully. If there is anything you do not understand or do not agree with, please ask any member of staff at your Thrifty location.
By booking online and accepting these Terms & Conditions you consent to Thrifty applying charges to your credit or debit card account. Your initial rental charges are paid for at the time of booking. You will not be required to make the excess deposit payment or pay for any possible additional rental costs until you collect your vehicle. Thrifty guarantees to have the vehicle you reserve or a higher classed vehicle available at the time and date you request.
Should you book and pre pay on line you must present your prepaid voucher in exchange for the hire
Please note below the policy regarding cancellations or if you do not arrive to collect your rental vehicle (No Show).
When you collect your rental vehicle you will be required to present a credit or debit card, which will be charged as follows:-
a) payment by credit card - if you choose to pay by credit card (Mastercard, Visa, American Express) your card will be pre-authorised for the rental charges and any additional charges agreed to plus a further amount of £150. In the event that you have pre paid only any additional charges plus a further amount of £150 will be charged. When you return the vehicle at the end of the hire period, the total additional charges, including any charges for fuel, damage, etc will be calculated, and your card will then be charged for the final amount. At this point the pre-authorised amount will be released back to your credit card account. This may take up to 10 days, depending on your card issuing bank.
b) payment by debit card - if you choose to pay by debit card (Switch, Solo, Maestro, Visa Electron, issued on UK banks only) your card will be charged at the start of the hire for the rental charges and any additional charges agreed to plus the value of the damage liability excess on the vehicle. In the event that you have pre paid only any additional charges plus the value of the damage liability excess will be charged. Should you choose to accept a damage liability waiver reduction your card will be charged for the additional charges plus a further £150, however, please note that Thrifty reserves the right to withdraw the option to purchase damage liaiblity waiver, for example, due to extreme weather conditions. When you return the vehicle at the end of the hire period, the total additional charges, including any charges for fuel, damage, etc will be calculated, and any overpayment will be credited to your card. Please note this process may take up to 5 working days. If you elect to pay by debit card, one of the additional forms of ID (see Identification required section) must be a copy of the bank statement for the account the debit card is issued on.
Payment by debit card is not allowed on Prestige or Luxury vehicles. Please note Thrifty Car Rental operate a CHIP and PIN facility only.
In the event that you return the vehicle earlier than the date originally specified on the voucher, no refund will be made.
If you wish to return the vehicle after the time originally specified, you should contact the branch to agree this. You will be charged for every day or part-day you have the vehicle after the original agreed date and time at the rate specified on the rental agreement when you collect the vehicle.
If you do not arrive to collect your vehicle at the time specified in the Reservation Confirmation, and you do not let the Thrifty location know that you are cancelling your hire as above, the Thrifty location may charge your credit or debit card in accordance with the agreement made at the time of confirmation, subject to a maximum amount equal to the value of the hire.
Cancellations
Reservations made via the Thrifty web site are at special rates which reflect our Cancellation and No-show policies.
Reservations confirmed and pre-paid on-line
If you cancel your pre-paid reservation more than 7 days in advance of the rental start date, a full refund will be given. If you cancel your pre-paid reservation less than 7 days before the rental start date, a refund less an administration fee of £30 (or the rental cost if this is less) will be given. Please note if appropriate I.D., the necessary payment/deposit is not produced at time of pick up or the Terms and Conditions are not adhered to in any way then the rental cannot proceed and the cancellation policy will be enforced. Cancellations may be made on this website and a cancellation number will be emailed to you - please retain this for your records.
NB: No cancellations can be made on the website after the rental start date & time. In these instances you should request the pick up location to action on your behalf.
Reservations confirmed on line but paid on pick up
No charge will be made for cancellation of a reservation that has been confirmed on line for payment on pick up.
Reservations confirmed off line by the Thrifty location
You may cancel your reservation at any time up to 48 hours before the check-out time without charge. Cancellation should be made direct with the Thrifty location (by telephone or email).
If you cancel after this time, the Thrifty location may charge your credit card in accordance with the agreement made at the time of confirmation, subject to a maximum amount equal to the value of the hire.
If you do not arrive to collect your vehicle (no show):
Reservations confirmed and pre-paid on-line
Unless you have cancelled your reservation in accordance with the above terms, if you do not collect your vehicle at the time specified on the prepaid rental voucher, no refund will be made.
The Thrifty location will, however, hold your rental vehicle available for you for 4 working hours after the time of the reservation.
Reservations confirmed on-line but paid on pick up
No charge will be made for failing to pick up your rental vehicle if you have not prepaid for your hire.
Reservations confirmed on-line or off-line by the Thrifty location
If you do not arrive to collect your vehicle at the time specified in the Reservation confirmation, and you do not let the Thrifty location know that you are cancelling your hire as above, the Thrifty location may charge your credit or debit card in accordance with the agreement made at the time of confirmation, subject to a maximum amount equal to the value of the hire.
Rental period
You will have the vehicle for the rental period shown in your Reservation Confirmation. If you do not bring the vehicle back on time, or if you do not contact us and get our agreement to an extension of your rental, you are breaking the conditions of this agreement. We can charge you for every day or part-day you have the vehicle after you should have returned it to us. Until we get the vehicle back we will charge you the daily rate specified on the rental agreement when you collect the vehicle.
Rental agreement
You will be asked to sign a Rental Agreement when you collect you hire vehicle and the terms of this agreement are as follows:
1 Your contract with us
When you sign the form over the page (rear of rental agreement that will be presented to you at the branch) you accept the conditions set out in this rental agreement.
Please read this agreement carefully. If there is anything you do not understand or do not agree with, please ask any member of staff at the place you rented the vehicle from.
2 Rental period
You will have the vehicle for the rental period shown in the agreement. We may agree to extend this rental period but the rental period may never be more than 30 days. If you do not bring the vehicle back on time you are breaking the conditions of this agreement. We can charge you for every day or part-day you have the vehicle after you should have returned it to us. Until we get the vehicle back we will charge you the daily rate published at the place you have rented the vehicle from.
3 Your responsibilities
a You must look after the vehicle and the keys to the vehicle. You must always lock the vehicle when you are not using it, and use any security device fitted to or supplied with the vehicle. You must always protect the vehicle against bad weather which can cause damage. You must always make sure that you use the correct fuel.
b You are responsible for any damage to the vehicle caused by hitting low-level objects, such as bridges or low branches.
c You must not sell, rent or dispose of the vehicle or any of its parts. You must not give anyone any legal rights over the vehicle.
d You must not let anyone work on the vehicle without our permission. If we do give you permission, we will only give you a refund if you have a receipt for the work.
e You must let us know as soon as you become aware of a fault in the vehicle.
f You must bring the vehicle back to the place we agreed, during the opening hours displayed at that place. One of our staff must see the vehicle to check that it is in good condition. If we have agreed that you may return the vehicle outside business hours, you will remain responsible for the vehicle and its condition until it is reinspected by a member of staff.
g You will have to pay for reasonable costs of repair if:
h Before you bring back the vehicle you must check that you have not left any personal belongings in the vehicle.
i You are responsible for any loss or damage to additional equipment hired at the time of rental, including but not limited to satellite navigation equipment, baby seats etc.
4 Our responsibilities
We have maintained the vehicle to at least the manufacturer recommended standard. We assure you that the vehicle is roadworthy and suitable for renting at the start of the rental period. Also, if you are not renting the vehicle for business purposes, we are responsible for loss caused by:
5 Property
We are only responsible for loss or damage to property left in the vehicle if the loss or damage results from our negligence or a breach of contract.
6 Conditions for using the vehicle
The vehicle must only be driven by you and any other driver named over the page, or by anyone else we authorise in writing. Anyone driving the vehicle must have a full valid driving licence.
You or any other authorised driver must not:
7 Towing
You or any other authorised driver must not use the vehicle for towing unless we have given you written permission.
8 Charges
We work out our charges using our current price list, as published over the page.
You will pay the following charges.
a The rental and any other charges we work out according to this agreement.
b Any charge for loss or damage resulting from you not keeping to condition 3.
c A refuelling service charge if you have used, and not replaced, the quantity of fuel that we supplied at the start of the original rental. The charge will be based on the rated printed on this rental agreement or at the place you rented the vehicle from (or both).
d All fines, court costs and intended prosecutions for parking, traffic or other offences (including any costs which arise if the vehicle is clamped). You must pay the appropriate authority any fines and costs if and when the authority demands this payment. All fines and intended prosecutions incurred will attract reasonable administration charges which arise when we deal with these matters.
e The reasonable cost of repairing any extra damage which was not noted on our vehicle check form at the start of the agreement, whether you were at fault or not (depending on 4). And the reasonable cost of replacing the vehicle if it is stolen, depending on any insurance you have (as set out in 9), if and when we demand this payment.
We will only charge you for loss of income if we can get back the losses under the Insurance Programme. We will charge you at the published daily rate and we will always do everything we can to make sure the vehicle is repaired or we get payment as soon as possible.
f A loss of income charge, when we demand it, if we cannot rent out the vehicle because it needs to be repaired, it is a write off (can't be repaired) or it has been stolen and we are waiting to receive full payment of the vehicle's value.
g Any charges arising from Customs and Excise or Vehicle Inspectorate seizing the vehicle, together with a loss-of-income charge while we cannot rent out the vehicle, if and when we demand this payment.
h Any published rates for delivering and collecting the vehicle.
i Interest which we will add every day to any amount you do not pay us on time, at the rate of 4% a year above the base lending rate of Barclays Bank from time to time.
j Value added tax and all other taxes on any of the charges listed above, as appropriate.
You are responsible for all charges, even if you have asked someone else to be responsible for them.
You can get details of our Insurance Programme from the office you rented the car from.
9. Our insurance and damage protection programme
If we arrange separate insurance, we will give you separate information on the insurance cover and any restrictions which may apply. Otherwise, the conditions of our insurance programme will apply. By signing the agreement over the page you are accepting the conditions of our insurance programme.
a We have a legal responsibility to have third party insurance, this provides cover for claims made if you injure or kill anybody, or damage their property (cover for damage to property is limited to £5,000.000).
b We will provide cover for loss or damage to the vehicle if you have initialled the box marked Loss/Damage waiverover the page. If you accept this, you still have to pay an amount up to the excessevery time you damage the vehicle.
c We will provide cover for theft and damage to the vehicle caused during an attempted theft if you have initialled the line marked Theft of rented vehicle over the page. If you accept this, you still have to pay an amount up to the excessif the vehicle is stolen. The excess amount you have to pay in each case is shown over the page.
d We will provide personal accident insurance and personal belongings insurance if you initialled the appropriate line over the page. You can get details of our insurance and damage protection programme (including the main exclusions) from the office you rented the car from.
10 Your own insurance
If we have agreed as indicated under insurance detailsover the page you may arrange your own insurance for the full duration of the rental as long as you can prove that this insurance is valid and have signed to confirm over the page. We have to agree to the amount of cover you arrange, the type of policy and the insurer you have chosen.
We must be satisfied with the cover and policy conditions, and you must not change them. We may ask your insurers to record our name as owners of the vehicle. If the vehicle is damaged or stolen you will let us negotiate with the insurers about whether the vehicle can be repaired or what compensation is due to us. You are financially responsible for settling the full claim and paying all costs if the policy you have arranged fails and the vehicle is damaged, lost or stolen, or a claim as made by any other party.
11 What to do if you have an accident
If you have an accident you must not admit responsibility. You should get the names and addresses of everyone involved, including witnesses. You should also:
12 Data Protection
You agree that we may use any information you have given us to carry out our own market research. If you break the agreement we can give this information to credit reference agencies, the Driver and vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), debt collectors and any other relevant organisation. We can also give this information to the British Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association (BVRLA), who can pass it on to any of its members for any purpose shown in the Data Protection Act 1998.
13 Ending the agreement
a If you are a consumer we will end this agreement straight away if we find out that your belongings have been taken away from you to pay off your debts, or a receiving order has been made against you. We may end this agreement if you do not meet any of the conditions of this agreement.
b If you are a company, we will end this agreement straight away if:
c If we end this agreement it will not affect our right to receive any money we are owed under the conditions of this agreement. We can also claim reasonable costs from you if you do not meet any of the conditions of this agreement. We can repossess the vehicle (and charge you a reasonable amount) without using unreasonable force or causing damage.
14 Governing law
This agreement is governed by the laws of the country in which it is signed. Any dispute may be settled in the courts of that country.
