The Bishops Stortford Castle is a great way to look back at some of the history of Hertfordshire. In the 12th century a rectangular rise was added on. The Castle was slighted after the Civil War and was used as a prison in the 17th Century. The only thing left of the Castle is the earthworks, the large moat and the foundation of a square tower that can be seen.

If you’re into boating and sailing there is the Stanborough Park. The Park is 126 acres and is found in Welwyn Garden City of Hertfordshire. The park has two man-made lakes that were opened in 1970. The northern lake is the Boating Lake (11.3 acres) and to the south is the Sailing Lake (15.3 acres).

If you’re a gardener you should definitely take a look at a few of the many public gardens in Hertfordshire. The Royal National Rose Society will re-open in June 2007 if you happen to be in Hertfordshire during that time. The gardens will have features such as a rose collection, showing the history of the rose. You will see roses that are in a garden setting showing different styles of planting, including the newly re-planted Queen Mother garden and many other beautiful rose-themed gardens.
